Salem United Methodist Church – where Liberty meets Independence – offers three unique worship services each Sunday. A traditional worship is held at 8:45 a.m.; a contemporary worship at 10:45 a.m.; and the SNL Coffeehouse at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages is held at 10 a.m. and Children’s Choir is held during the 10:45 worship for grades one through five. A paid nursery attendant is on staff from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm.

SNL is Salem’s open door, coffee-house style worship experience, held Sunday evenings in Sandherr Hall. In a small group setting, we share the Good News of Christ through messages, discussions and Christian films. SNL meets at 6:30 p.m., except on meal and movie nights (next one on Sept. 9), when SNL begins at 6.

Salem hosts a Free Block Party to celebrate community at the close of traditional summer. All are invited to enjoy this Block Party on Sunday, Aug. 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. Food, games, and live entertainment are all FREE as Salem’s gift to the community.

The 4th annual OrWINGSburg Chicken Wing Contest will also be held at the church. All you great cooks can enter your wings for a chance to be the best in town! Look for information on how to register on our webpage and on posters throughout town.

Kick-off Heritage Day on Saturday, Sept. 8 with a hearty Pancake & Sausage Breakfast served indoors at Salem Church on Independence Street from 7 to 11 a.m. before you head to Centre Square to celebrate the day. Salem will also have a Welcoming Booth “on the square” with face painting and free goodies.

October brings Salem’s annual A Whole New Boo Halloween Event on Wednesday evening during the Orwigsburg Halloween Parade. Plan to parade with Salem Church and join in other fun activities. Youngsters will each receive a “bigger than fun-siz” candy bag. Adults are encouraged to dress and march as well. Pre-register begin- ning October 1 on the website judging starts at 6 p.m. followed by marching/riding in the parade that finishes at the church

where all participants will receive their prizes! Family Movie Nights return on Friday, Oct. 26 and continue monthly through spring, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Supper, drinks, snacks and, of course, fresh popcorn are provided. Bring a blanket but regular seating is provided. This is a free event offered to all in the community.
The 13th annual Holiday Stop and Shop will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Up to 18 vendors will be displaying/selling goods and services. Team Orwigsburg will hold its Soup and Bake Sale to help fund its mission.
